This is Weatherman’s second single release. Their first, “Stormy Dayz b/w Swimming the Atlantic” was released on La Société Expéditionnaire on February 17th, 2015. Single 01 and 02 are part of a series of three singles, to be followed by their debut EP, available in the fall of 2015.
Weatherman is a minimal, experimental pop collaboration between pianist/vocalist Annie Higgins and drummer Jason Toth, with exploratory electronics from composer Joshua Dumas and harmony vocals from Angela James. These recordings are engineered and mixed by Alex Inglizian at Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio, with supplemental recording by Dumas at Pieholden Suite Sound. They’re mastered by Peter Andreadis at All City Mastering.
The “Night Games b/w Dopamine” single finds Weatherman continuing to explore new sounds and forms. Higgins expands her palette, moving between piano and organ, and layering her vocals. Toth tinkers with heavily-effected drums, and Dumas pulls sounds from disparate sources – a field recording of a broken bus engine, an actual mellotron, and a soup of Korg MS-20.
Weatherman will spend the summer working on new recordings, performing around Chicago, and heading out on a few regional mini-tours all in preparation for the release of their debut EP in autumn 2015.
